The Kentucky Derby Festival began in 1935 as a week-long festival prior to the Kentucky Derby. After the floods devastated Louisville, the festival was halted until 1956. Today, the Kentucky Derby Festival takes place during the two weeks preceding the Kentucky Derby and includes Thunder Over Louisville, The Great Steamboat Race, Pegasus Parade, Marathon and miniMarathon and of course, the Great BalloonFest, as well as other events.
The BalloonFest spans three days, starting Thursday, April 27 and ending Saturday, April 29. See below for a full schedule. The schedule of events contains three races, one every morning, where you can expect to see the balloons racing across the skies over Louisville. Thursday and Friday evening you can walk among the lit, inflated balloons and talk to the balloon crews. Mirazon family and friends are highly anticipating inflating our balloon again and sharing it with Louisville. We enjoy seeing all your smiling faces as you take in the entire inflation process and flickering lights once dusk hits.
Each balloon event is weather permitting and can be either delayed or canceled depending on rain or strong winds. The schedule is as follows:

8:30 pm Great Balloon Glimmer Begins at Waterfront Park
