We are about two months away from Windows XP’s end-of-life date, which barely gives most businesses enough time to transition. There are pundits out there who might argue that there is no need to switch, but really, sporting Windows XP as your business’s operating system is like staying in the Death Star.
“Once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny. Consume you, it will…”
Vulnerable to Attack
When Microsoft says that it will not continue to support Windows XP after April 8, 2014, this basically means that it will not send out software patches to maintain security.
Will XP be the thermal exhaust port to your business? Without these regular security patches being issued, there will be more and more holes for cyber criminals to exploit to either gain access to your system or infect you with malware.
These software vulnerabilities are just like the three-meter-wide hole on the Death Star. With the right tools, someone can declare himself Emperor and seize control of your Republic with potentially devastating consequences. Admiral Akbar is betting your Windows XP software has an exploit, I’m betting more than one, and the rebel forces really only needed one to blow up the Death Star.
Start Your Transition Now
It will be a difficult transition to a new world order, especially if you’re looking to keep business disruption at a minimum. The transition from the former Alliance Fleet to the New Republic Defense Fleet with a volunteer resistance force was difficult and so will be a transition off Windows XP, but the Wookiee is on your side. Feel the force.
Mirazon can assist you with the Polith Minefield that includes the new Windows licensing model, hardware upgrades and the dreaded incompatibility with line-of-business applications. XP is about to blow and time and cost will be considerably less with a transition today than trying to pick up the pieces after the Death Star’s demise. Even though cyber criminals don’t have the Force on their side, they become smarter and savvier every day.
May the Force be with you.
