Skype for Business February 2017 Cumulative Update Highlights

For Valentine’s day, Microsoft gave us a new Cumulative Update (CU)! I’m not going to re-hash all the items that are updated in this one, but a few items to note that are more user facing:

Enhanced 911: There was an issue with E911 not working when a non-Windows Authentication was used to authenticate to the Skype for Business server. This update should resolve any issues you may have encountered with this.

Push Notification support for iOS and Android Clients: This SHOULD be fixed. I’ve seen some dodgy behavior in the past with this, so I’m not holding my breath, but it’s listed, so let’s give it a try!

Matching Mobile Numbers: So let’s say that you have a work number of 555-555-1212, and you’re using the mobile client on your cell phone with a number of 555-555-1234. When you fire up the client, you are prompted for a mobile number. In the past, if you used your work number of 555-555-1212, it wouldn’t let you set it because Unified Communications Web API (UCWA) would block it due to the duplicated number.

Names in Contact Cards: Have you ever looked at a contact card, and you couldn’t see the name of the person in the contact card? Yeah, this was because UCWA wasn’t returning the display name in the search response. This should be fixed.
